Plantar heel pain is a common condition characterised by a sharp pain in the heel of

your foot on walking and usually worst after sitting for long periods of time. Plantar

fasciitis occurs due to micro tears in the plantar facia (a thick ligamentous structure

along the bottom of the foot) that can be caused by repetitive strain, overload, poor foot

and ankle biomechanics or inappropriate footwear. The plantar facia plays a crucial role

in foot biomechanics, providing support for the arch and shock absorption during

walking and running. If you’re suffering from plantar heel pain, engaging in daily

activities and exercise can be challenging without causing more pain.

Every person has different needs therefore, recovery and treatment can vary depending

on this. Through clinical assessment, our physiotherapists identify the cause of your

heel pain prior to formulating an individualized treatment plan. Treatment can include

exercise prescription to gradually increasing the strength and functionality of the plantar

facia and surrounding structures, manual therapy, taping, and prescription orthotic

devices, aiming to not only reduce pain, restore normal and optimal function but also

prevent future flare-ups.
